Renewable Energy is energy which can be obtained from natural resources that can be constantly replenished. It is the energy that generated from natural resource such as wind, sunlight, rain, tides and geothermal heat.
Solar Energy: This is the energy produced by Sun. Energy derived from the sun's radiation. Solar Energy is used on earth in various ways. It is used as a passive source of energy. For example, in the form of sunlight that comes through a window and heats up a room.
Forms of Solar Energy includes- Active Solar Energy
- Passive Solar Energy
Active Solar Energy: This involves equipment or an action to convert Solar Energy into a useful form. One example is the use of Solar Cells to convert energy from the Sun into electrical energy that can be used in the home.
Passive Solar Energy: This does not require any specific action or equipment. Example of this is strategically placing windows in a home to allow sunlight to enter and produce heat.
Wind EnergyWind energy is the use of air flow through wind turbines to mechanically power generator for electricity. Many countries are now looking towards Turbine Energy as it provides an enormous source of energy. One of the big problems with wind farms is that they have to be in an known for wind.
Solar panel maintenance is important because insufficient care for solar panels can reduce the amount of energy that these panels generate. Since a solar panel system needs to absorb energy from the sun, the most vital component of solar panel care is to keep the panels clean. You can usually maintain a solar panel using the same equipment that you use to wash your residential and automobile windows, as long as you provide regular care and don't allow dirt and other environmental elements from settling on the panels for too long.
There are two ways solar panel can be maintained:- By getting a solar panel cleaning kit
- Monitoring Performance.
Install a monitoring system to keep an eye on the performance of your solar panels : When the performance goes down you'll know that maintenance is required. Most of these monitoring systems need to be installed professionally with the purchase of a monthly subscription fee.
You own the sun. Well, not exactly, but you do have the right to its power. Why not put it good use? With solar technology, you can harness the sun's energy and turn your rooftop into a power plant.
The Main Components of a Solar System are:Solar Panel: Solar (PV) panels are elegant devices that will sit on your rooftop and turn sunlight directly into electricity for decades, all without noise or emissions.
Inverter: Most houses use AC power, but Solar Panel generate DC power. Passing the DC through Inverter will automatically do the conversion.
Batteries: With batteries, you can store power generated by the Solar Panel and consume it when you want to.
Wiring: This allow electricity current to travel from solar panels to the inverter and then into your house safely.
A Timeline of
The History of Solar
-
Archimedes
Legend holds that Archimedes, a Greek scientist, used a series of mirrors on the shoreline to concentrate the sun's energy and set fire to incoming enemy ships.
-
Photovoltaic Effect
A.E. Becquerel observes that shining light on certain materials would cause the creation of electric current. This was the launching point for photovoltaic technology.
-
1st Solar Cell
Charles Fritts produces the world’s first solar cell, a device that converts sunlight into electricity, using selenium and gold. The cell’s efficiency was less than 1%, meaning than less than 1% of the light energy was converted into electricity.
-
Photons
Albert Einstein is awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his "discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect." Einstein was the first to postulate the existence of light quanta, now called photons, providing a theoretical foundation for modern PV technology.
-
Commercial Solar
Silicon solar cells make their way into the mainstream market. The New York Times noted that the silicon cell could lead to "the harnessing of the almost limitless energy of the sun for the uses of civilization."
-
The Space Race
The space race between the U.S. and Russia sparks significant investments in solar technology. Some of the earliest man-made satellites, including Vanguard 1, were powered by photovoltaic cells.
-
1GW of Solar
Cumulative global solar installation passes 1GW, a critical turning point for our industry’s global development.
-
The Silicon Rush
Solar industry surpasses the computer industry as the largest consumer of high-purity silicon. Although this created a temporary silicon supply shortage, it sparked major industry investments that lowered the price of solar panels.
-
$1/Watt Solar Panels
The cost of high-quality silicon solar panels falls to roughly US$1 per watt, opening new markets around the world and driving a global energy revolution.
